CULTURAL HEALTH PROJECT
MEN AS FATHERS AND PARTNERS
Elijah Mzobe
It has been truly amazing to experience God’s grace in the expansion of our activities and the miracles that we witness on a daily basis.
The expansion of our Man to Man Programme, which started with funding from Sappi Saiccor, has grown from strength to strength now through the funding of Aids Foundation of South Africa.
Purpose and Objective
The CHP Project provides forums for men in rural areas to discuss their cultural roles as men, fathers and partners and encourages positive behavioural changes in attitudes towards women and children.
The specific objectives are to reduce the incidence on new HIV infections; to reduce the stigma around HIV; lessen social and domestic violence towards women and children and support small income generating projects to alleviate poverty in rural areas.
With AFSA funding we are able to render these services to three municipalities, namely Umdoni, Vulamehlo and Umzumbe under the UGU district. We have seven dedicated facilitators who are educating the male population to fulfil their life roles as responsible fathers, partners, brothers with the aim of decreasing domestic violence and the HIV infection rates.
To all communities, local leaders, men, women and youth we would like to say "thank you" for allowing UVHAA to continue caring for the under-privileged in your area.
The HIV epidemic cannot be overcome without a concerted and co-ordinated effort.
We would not be doing justice if we forgot to salute the caregivers who assist and support distressed families. Our actions may be small but when we come together and tackle issues we can make a big difference to a very big problem.
YES WE CAN – YES WE WILL
